At PDR we have Advanced Practice Therapists who have received post-graduate training in various manual therapy techniques to address pelvic/SIJ dysfunctions, soft-tissue restrictions, etc...including:
Muscle Release Technique (MRT) is a soft tissue mobilization technique that is helpful in improving circulation and decreasing scar tissue in strained musculature. MRT may be utilized in combination with strength exercises to improve the tissue composition, breaking scar tissue that leads to improved range of motion and decreased pain.
Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is a neuromuscular technique that helps reduce muscle spasm and improve specific joint motion. This gentle contract-relax technique allows reduction in muscle tone that may be limiting joint motion. Performing these techniques allows improved motion, postural correction, and reduction in pain.
Strain-Counterstrain (SCS) is a neuromuscular technique that helps reduce muscle spasm and improve specific joint motion. This gentle positional hold technique reduces muscle tone, tender points, and tightness that may be limiting joint motion. Performing these techniques allows improved motion, postural correction, and reduction in pain.
Traction to the spine allows a gentle stretch and decompression of the spinal joints and discs. It may be particularly helpful in reducing disc bulges and herniations that cause arm or leg symptoms. Should the clinic traction provide significant relief, home units may be prescribed to the patient for daily use.
Kinesiotaping application is used to improve circulation, reduce pain, and normalize muscle tone. Taping techniques applied to certain muscles may offer inhibition or relaxation to a muscle with increased tone; or can facilitate muscles that lack tone and coordination.
