pdr return to work program

PDR’s return-to-work program is designed for the injured worker who is partially or completely off of work due to a neck or back injury, with the goal being to expedite return to work at 100% function.

This program differs from our standard MedX program in its higher frequency of treatment (3 vs. 2x/week) and shorter duration (8 vs. 12 weeks), with a greater emphasis being placed on work conditioning and lifting capacities progressions. If requested, our physicians will address work restrictions during the physician follow-up visits.

Both programs offer extensive education and hands-on training in the areas of proper body mechanics and lifting techniques, postural retraining and ergonomics assessments. In addition, patients will receive instruction and on-going training in home exercises, including our exclusive PDR Swiss ball circuit training program.

During each visit a patient's lifting and carrying capacities are closely monitored for safety and increased as tolerated. Our physicians then use this data to accurately adjust work restrictions for a more timely return to work. This may also alleviate the need for a functional capacity evaluation and can help reduce the overall cost of a patient's medical care.

Workers Compensation Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE)

We offer both a full (6-hour) and job specific (2-3 hour) FCE for work comp-related injuries. The purpose of an FCE is to determine and facilitate:

  • Work capabilities and restrictions
  • Lifting capacities
  • Safe return to work after injury
  • Job search after injury

The FCE consists of a battery of tests which may include lifting tasks, dexterity and strength testing, cardiovascular activity, as well as testing of various job-specific tasks. A number of cross-checks are built into the tests to determine patient effort. Within 48 hours of completion, the referring physician, QRC and case manager are provided with a comprehensive report with the therapist’s specific observations, assessment and recommendations.
